Attention! Attention! A very important message…..

Hey guys, Its me, Sarah.

I’m sitting here in my studio and I’m finalising the track listing for my record.
It’s weird to actually think I’m going to stop and put it out because I seem to never stop writing and I never know when to let it go.

I’m really excited about this one and it feels so fresh and full of  promise and energy to me.

I have been reading a lot of your emails, comments and fan letters and I know that some of you are confused as to why I changed my musical direction so drastically, so I thought I’d explain it to you.

Firstly, I have  written a tonne of songs since Beauty Was A Tiger was released.
To be honest I’ve written about 60 songs in the interim, all of which I have put down to my learning curve and musical evolution. The first lot were really pop but with raw acoustics production, the second was my maiden voyage into dance production, i.e. I dove into the world of programming. I wrote songs as a way of practicing my production techniques, learning new software and trying to get my head around how to use midi and the wide world of plug ins available to me. Suddenly my doors opened wide up, it was almost like I knew too much and I didn’t know where to step. …but I LOVED it.

I was working on a software program called Logic Studio and I was amazed at how fast my brain was adapting to this way of working, the words ‘where have I been’ were uttered inside my head regularly. Then I went to Miami and  a recorded an album with Jimmy Douglass and ILL Factor. During these sessions I didn’t really learn that much about production as they were pretty hands on , working on Pro Tools which I don’t understand and I was just doing the top line writing and nothing else (top line writing is when your job is to write the vox part for an instrumental that someone else has already written) . I enjoyed this time and it was good to be in a position where I had to write so madly fast under massive pressure but I didn’t think it was my best work.

Then I went and locked myself in a basement in London during a very cold winter and I went back to honing my production skills. I knew my album was already done but I was getting better by the day. I then realised that it didn’t matter how long you’ve been in the game… its just what’s inside of you that counts.

I was listening to a lot of dance music, being in London and all, and my tastes were evolving.. Suddenly real drums sounded flabby and messy to me and cymbals seemed like white noise. I was so into direct ins and outs, samples and tight programming. I could hear space between the sounds and build tracks bit by bit and it was so exciting.
I have developed as a writer but it’s the production skills that I have acquired that I’m most excited about. All of you who think I went ‘dance’ to try and cash in on some bandwagon need to know my motivations behind this change because its been a long road of development for me and I have been working mega hard to achieve it.

After this London phase I took these tracks to Brooklyn NY and basically worked on my sessions with Producer Freebase. He worked on Logic also so we were engineering together and it was very hands on between the two of us. He taught me LOADS, it was exactly what I needed to inspire me and take me to the next level of production. Benny Blanco who is the main programmer and writer for Dr Luke (the guy behind Ke$ha and Katy Perry) also worked out of the same studio for the  company called ‘Pilot Creative’.  Benny would come in and observe where we were at and give us tips and ideas, This was the most exciting musical phase of my life to date. This is where I truly found my feet. Freebase and I worked so well together that we began to produce music for other artists as well.

I still listen to rock music but my passions and tastes have morphed into a more progressive pop sound and I’m super into it.

So don’t be alarmed and don’t be afraid… its all for a reason and its going to be rad. So join me on this trip cause its been a long time in the making and I swear its going to be super fun.
xxxxxxxx
